2014 Regional Team U13 Champions: Team Connecticut

2014 Regional Team U15 Champions: Team Connecticut

2014 Regional Team U17 Champions: Team New York
2014 Regional Team Overall Champions: Team Connecticut
A gripping morning of finals made for matches and overall scores that went down to the wire at Yale University's Brady Squash Center. Team Connecticut clinched three of the four titles--overall champions, U15, and U13, while Team New York captured the U17 title.
Thus concludes the first of many Regional Team Championships as a part of the US Squash Regional Teams program. The overall scoreboard, draws, pictures and more are available on the 2014 Regional Team Championships Page

Saturday Evening: Finals Set to Crown First Regional Team Champions Sunday Morning

Sunday's finals are set after a full day of matches Saturday. Team spirit, camaraderie and good sportsmanship were evident throughout the halls of Yale University's Brady Squash Center Saturday.

It seemed that just as much of the competition was off court between the resting players seeing who could support their teammates more, as it was on court between the actual match contestants.

The Live Leaderboard on the Regional Team Championships Page will be updated throughout Sunday morning as results are turned in, and finishing positions calculated to determine the first U13, U15, U17, and Overall Regional Team Champions.

Pictures from Friday and Saturday are available on the US Squash Smugmug page.

Saturday: Motivate, Warm Up, Play

Saturday morning began with breakfast and a just as palpable motivational speech from Coach Assaiante about what it means to be on a team, and supporting your teammates. Players separated into teams afterwards for dynamic warm ups before their matches.

Follow match progress throughout the day in the draws and live leaderboard sections of the Regional Team Championships page.

Friday: Opening Ceremony, First Day of Match Play

The inaugural regional team championships are in full swing Friday afternoon after an opening ceremony. After arriving at Yale University's Payne Witney Gymnasium, the nearly 150 elite players from across the United States donned their region's colors before the opening ceremonies.

Team Connecticut-Black, Team Great Lakes-Green, Team Mid-Atlantic-Purple, Team New England-Light Blue, Team New York-Dark Blue, Team Pennsylvania-Red, and Team West Coast-Yellow
Coach Assaiante framed the historic weekend as the first of its kind, and first of many as US Squash continues to develop its Regional Squad training program. The tournament structure uses the same scoring system as the old College squash system when Assaiante began coaching nearly thirty years ago, which uses individual draws through which team points are averaged by finishing positions--in main and consolation draws alike--for a total team score.

Four awards will be decided over the weekend, one champion for U13, U15, and U17 age groups, and one overall Regional Champion.

Follow all draws and the overall team scores on the Regional Team Championships page.

Photos will be posted throughout the weekend on the US Squash Smugmug page.
