Friday: Opening Ceremony, First Day of Match Play

The inaugural regional team championships are in full swing Friday afternoon after an opening ceremony. After arriving at Yale University's Payne Witney Gymnasium, the nearly 150 elite players from across the United States donned their region's colors before the opening ceremonies.

Team Connecticut-Black, Team Great Lakes-Green, Team Mid-Atlantic-Purple, Team New England-Light Blue, Team New York-Dark Blue, Team Pennsylvania-Red, and Team West Coast-Yellow
Coach Assaiante framed the historic weekend as the first of its kind, and first of many as US Squash continues to develop its Regional Squad training program. The tournament structure uses the same scoring system as the old College squash system when Assaiante began coaching nearly thirty years ago, which uses individual draws through which team points are averaged by finishing positions--in main and consolation draws alike--for a total team score.

Four awards will be decided over the weekend, one champion for U13, U15, and U17 age groups, and one overall Regional Champion.

Follow all draws and the overall team scores on the Regional Team Championships page.

Photos will be posted throughout the weekend on the US Squash Smugmug page.
